SOME lucky gadget lovers are set to get the their Apple Watch sooner than expected as the technology company fights back against criticism that it has botched its biggest launch for years.

Apple today has released a statement on Watch orders that contains good news although raises more questions than it answers.

“We’re happy to be updating many customers today with the news that their Apple Watch will arrive sooner than expected,” the statement says.

“Our team is working to fill orders as quickly as possible based on the available supply and the order in which they were received. We know many customers are still facing long lead times and we appreciate their patience.”

Just what Apple Watch models are likely to be shipped first is unclear. It’s also unclear how this new push to meet existing orders will impact on the next wave of orders that are expected to come tomorrow.

The statement is frustratingly vague. How many people will get their Watch early, who are they and where are they? Apple is not saying.

The Apple Watch officially goes on sale tomorrow although because of stock shortages it will be June before people will be able to walk into an Apple Store and buy a Watch off the shelf.

In the meantime, customers who go into an Apple Store will be directed to purchase a Watch online.

The lucky group who were in the first wave of pre-orders will get their Watch on Friday. Those who put their pre-order in after initial stock sold out currently are looking at waiting up to another six weeks or so for their Watch to arrive.

In a move that might, by some frustrated customers, be seen as rubbing salt into the wound, Apple tomorrow will start offering courses on how to use an Apple Watch. You can book a spot in one of the courses online, although the course description asks that you should bring along your Apple Watch.
